TEMPLE OF SERVICE

SHUT YOUR EYES TO SEE.... THE WORLD OF THE SIGHTLESS

With your eyes closed, try walking across the room. Try doing any of your usual chores which you do so routinely everyday. Don't you find yourself helpless? Someone must put paste on your toothbrush. Someone must lay out your clothes, someone must put you food in front of you...

The world of the sightless is a dark world. Where silence means fear. Where colours are heard. Where touch feels the life.

And tragically a majority of the sightless who are thrown into this predicament are imprisoned there for want of a little care and for want of proper medical attention, which means just a few hundred rupees.

To alleviate the suffering of this vast humanity, LIONS CLUB OF CALCUTTA made a small beginning in 1986 when the foundation stone was laid to built a four-storied modern Eye Hospital in Golf Green on the land made available by the Government of West Bengal.

It took years of hard toil, careful planning and generous finances  before the Hospital took shape. In 1992 CALCUTTA LIONS NETRA NIKETAN came into being and has been serving the needy ever since.

We are indeed indebted to all our Lion friends, patrons and well wishers who donated generously to give this Hospital a strong financial base and the team of dedicated doctors and volunteers who provide excellent service to the needy patients day in and day out. But a work of this dimension requires fresh ideas, fresh equipments, fresh volunteers and fresh funds always.

Open your eyes and look at the work we have done and are doing. See if there is any area where you could contribute in making this Hospital more effective. Find it. Do it.

Your contributions, your involvement, your encouragement is what we seek!
