It is my humble opportunity to place a brief report of CALCUTT A LIONS NETRA NIKET AN (A Project of Lions Club of Calcutta, Lions International District 322B-l) a premier Eye Hospital catering to the lower, middle and upper segments of Society of Kolkata in particular and West Bengali Eastern Region in general.

I would like to place on record my appreciation to all those who are associated with this benevolent organization, including the Doctors, for all the wonderful work they have been doing in extending proper medical attention to the poor and needy eye patients. Ever since it was established in the year 1992, it has been rendering excellent services to the needy and poor patients, thanks to the enthusiasm, co-operation and help of all those associated with this organisation, directly or indirectly.

It is very painful to see that a large number of our citizens do not have access to health care facilities. Moreover ignorance and social taboos, associated with many diseases are still rampant. A concerted effort in this direction is required to meet the enormous health related challenges that face us today. Tragically, in our country a large number of sightless cases are there. It is essential that organizations such as ours come forward & lend their helping hand for the noble cause of treatment and rehabilitation of the visually handicapped people.

India is home to 25 percent of the world's visually handicapped population. The irony is that a majority of the cases of blindness could have been prevented had their been early detection and correction of the problem in its formative year. The major cause of blindness in India according to the WHO report, is cataract and negligence of post- cataract surgery treatment. It is often seen that in our country, while a large number of eye operations are being done, little care was being taken regarding post-surgery treatment However at our hospital a lot emphasis is being given to the post-surgical care as well.

Eyes are the most precious gifts of God and we consider ourselves to be lucky as we take care of the same. We have been able to maintain a high level of quality and service standard .We feel privileged to have dedicated persons who consider our Institution as A TEMPLE OF SERVICE.

With warm regards
Rajesh Kumar Prasad
